PURPOSE

Brothers Under Christ exists for the purpose of establishing brotherhood and unity among college men based on the common bond of Jesus Christ.

ORIGIN OF THE FRATERNITY

Brothers Under Christ was formed at The University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 1985 by a handful of Christian men who desired an alternative to the present fraternal lifestyle. A group of Christian men met and planned the "BYX Island Party" to formally announce the fraternity's founding. It was the vision of the founding fathers to have a fraternity of committed Christian men, based on the unique brotherhood that a Christian atmosphere affords, for the purpose of fellowship and glorification of Jesus Christ. Through such events as parties, service projects, and evangelical outreaches, the charter members of Brothers Under Christ chose to unite in fellowship and edify Jesus Christ on the University of Texas campus. The goal presses on...

HISTORY OF THE OU KAPPA CHAPTER

In the fall of 1999, a small group of men ventured to Sky Ranch in Tyler, Texas to visit the annual Brothers Under Christ Officer Conference. It was their vision to start a strong, close-nit fraternity based on fellowship, accountability and most importantly, the glorification of Jesus Christ. Upon learning more about Brothers Under Christ, the group of men strongly felt God encouraging BYX at the University of Oklahoma. With time, God brought the right men together to form the Kappa Chapter of Beta Upsilon Chi at the University of Oklahoma. In the fall of 2000, Brothers Under Christ at OU held its first rush signing over 25 pledges devoted to growing in the bond of Christ. The Kappa Chapter is the tenth BYX chapter, and the first outside the state of Texas.

THE FOUNDING SCRIPTURE "Behold how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity." - Psalm 133:1

THE FRATERNITY COLORS

The Bible says that when God's children enter heaven, we will be new creatures. Our Father is Royalty, the King of Kings. As His children, we are His royal heirs. The Charter Members of Brothers Under Christ suggested that the royal colors, purple and white, be used to reflect this great promise. Purple stands for royalty, and white stands for purity.

THE FRATERNITY CREST

Each part on the crest has a meaning. The crown at the top is the Crown of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings. The purple and white fields are the fraternity's colors. The royal purple represents our heritage as sons of God. The white field symbolizes the purity we have through Christ's blood. The three-stranded cord, as the Bible teaches, cannot be broken. It represents unity and the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The communion chalice and wafer represent the blood and body of Christ. The cross depicts Christ's sacrifice for our salvation. The dove represents peace and the Holy Spirit.
